In medical applications, Glutaraldehyde is mainly used for disinfection/sterilization of heat-sensitive medical devices (e.g., endoscopes, dental handpieces), and its use must follow strict specifications:
    • Concentration control: A 2% aqueous solution is the standard concentration for high-level disinfection; exceeding 3% may increase skin irritation, while concentrations below 1.5% will reduce sterilization efficacy.
    • Use conditions: The disinfection time should be at least 20 minutes (for general bacteria) or up to 10 hours (for spore sterilization); the solution temperature should be maintained at 20-25℃, and pH can be adjusted with sodium bicarbonate to 7.5-8.5 to enhance efficacy.
    • Staff protection: Medical staff must wear nitrile gloves (not latex, as glutaraldehyde can penetrate latex), goggles, and a face mask to avoid direct contact with the skin or inhalation of fumes. The operation should be carried out in a well-ventilated environment (with an exhaust system), and if the solution splashes into the eyes, rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes immediately.
